このキューカードへの取り組み方
このキューカード（cue card）は簡単そうに見えますが、実際に試されるのは、静止した視覚的な場面を細かく描写し、それを記憶や感情に結びつける力です。試験官が求めているのは、「it shows my family and we look happy」のようなあいまいなまとめではなく、具体的な描写です。色、表情、場所、天気、画面の端で起きていることなどです。
いちばん話しやすいのは、はっきり思い浮かべられる写真です。家族の集まり、旅行、卒業式、ペット、たまたまうまく撮れたごく普通の場面でも構いません。劇的な写真や珍しい写真は必要ありません。最も強い回答は、ごく普通の場面を生き生きと描写できる受験者のものです。その細部こそが、回答をありきたりではなく本物らしく聞かせるからです。
回答の最初の部分は、写真に実際に何が写っているか、いつ撮られたかに使い、誰が撮ったかにはもっと短い時間を使い、気に入っている理由にしっかり時間を残しましょう。ここが回答でいちばん面白くなることが多く、「explain」の行が展開を求めている部分です。

The photo I would like to describe is one of my grandmother and me sitting in her garden, taken about six years ago, not long before I moved abroad for university. My cousin took it on an old phone, actually without either of us realising, so it is a completely candid shot rather than something posed. In the photo, my grandmother is laughing at something I clearly just said, and I am looking at her rather than the camera, which is probably why I like it so much — it captures a moment rather than a performance. You can see her rose bushes in the background, slightly out of focus, and the light suggests it was taken in the early evening, when the garden always looked its best. The colours have faded a little now since it is printed rather than digital, but that almost adds to it. I like this photo mainly because it brings back memories of her voice and the way she laughed, which is something I genuinely worry about forgetting over time. It is a small, ordinary photo, nothing dramatic, but I keep it framed on my desk as a kind of keepsake, and it is one of the few things I would grab first if I ever had to leave somewhere in a hurry.

よくある質問
手元に実物がない写真について話してもよいですか？
はい。試験官に見せるのではなく、記憶をもとに描写するので、スマートフォンに保存されている写真でも、何年も前にはっきり覚えている写真でも、同じようにうまくいきます。
写真は人物のものでも、場所のものでも構いませんか？
どちらでも構いません。人物の写真は、人間関係や記憶について話せることが多くなります。場所や出来事の写真は、描写できる視覚的、感覚的な細部が増えることが多いです。
自分で撮った写真について話してもよいですか？
はい、そうすると「who took it」の項目に正直に答えやすくなります。ただし、写真に何が写っているか、なぜ大切なのかについて、十分に話すことがあるようにしましょう。
