Many people now learn foreign languages through online lessons instead of attending classes in a school or language centre. Do the advantages of this development outweigh the disadvantages?

Band 6

Nowadays many people learn languages through online lessons, and fewer people go to classes in a school. Some people say that classes with a teacher are always better, but I do not agree. Many of my friends study in this way. In my opinion the advantages of this development are bigger than the disadvantages, and I will explain why in this essay.

The main advantage of online lessons is that they are flexible. Firstly논점을 여는 이름표일 뿐 서론과 아무것도 연결하지 않음, people who work or look after children is not able주어와 동사의 수 불일치: 올바른 형태는 “are not able” to attend a class at a fixed time, but with online lessons they can study in the evening or at the weekend. For example, a mother can study after her children are asleep. This is the reason why I think online lessons are more convenient. Also, it is easy to start because you only need a computer. Also, they can watch the lesson again if they did not understand something, and this is very good모호하고 기초적인 표현: “valuable” 같은 더 정확한 단어가 필요함 for students who learn slowly.

However, there is also a disadvantage. The students do not get enough chance to speak with other people단점을 언급만 하고 설명하지 않았으며 예도 없음. In a real class they speak with the teacher and the other students all the time, and this make them more confident주어와 동사의 수 불일치: 올바른 형태는 “this makes them”. Online they often only listen to a video, so they can feel alone단어 선택 오류: 여기서는 “lonely”가 일반적인 단어임. Speaking is a very important part of a language, so this is a problem for some people.

To conclude, online lessons are flexible but students speak less, and the advantages are bigger결론 문단이 서론을 다른 말로 반복할 뿐 두 측면을 비교하지 않음. So I think the advantages is more than올바른 형태는 “advantages are greater than” 또는 “advantages outweigh” the disadvantages, and online lessons are a good choice for many people today. In the future more people will use them.

Band 7

Learning a language online has become common, and many people no longer attend classes in a school or language centre. Online study is available to almost anyone with a connection. Although this change has drawbacks, I believe that its advantages outweigh them.

The main advantage is flexibility주제문이 문단의 단 하나의 주제를 밝힘. Adults who work long hours or look after children often cannot commit to a class at a fixed time, whereas online lessons can be fitted into an evening or a weekend. For a parent returning from work, an hour on a fixed evening may simply be impossible, whereas a lesson that waits until the children are asleep remains available. Learners can also replay a recording when an explanation is unclear, something that a live class does not allow짧은 관계절을 쉼표로 앞의 생각에 연결함. As a result, people who might otherwise have given up can keep studying regularly.

The main disadvantage is that learners get less spontaneous speaking practice. In a classroom, students must respond immediately to a teacher or a classmate, and this pressure gradually builds confidence자연스러운 콜로케이션. Speaking is a skill that grows through repeated, unplanned exchanges, so its absence matters. A learner who only watches recorded lessons may understand grammar well yet hesitate when speak동사 형태 오류: 올바른 형태는 “speaking” to a real person. However, this problem is not impossible to solve, since many online courses now offer live conversation sessions단점을 설명한 뒤 비교하여 결론을 뒷받침함.

In conclusion, online lessons reduce the amount of natural conversation, but flexibility decides whether many people can learn at all결론을 반복하는 대신 그 이유를 제시함. For this reason I believe the advantages are greater than맞지만 평범한 비교: 더 다양한 동사를 쓰면 어휘 범위가 넓어짐 the disadvantages. Learners who combine recorded lessons with regular conversation practice can gain both benefits.

Band 8

Online lessons are replacing the classroom for a growing number of language learners. The question is how much each side weighs. This development does carry a real drawback, but I believe the advantages outweigh it, chiefly because flexibility determines whether many adults study at all첫 문단에서 결론을 그 이유와 함께 밝힘.

The decisive advantage is flexibility. A parent or shift worker cannot commit to a class that meets at a fixed hour, but can complete an online lesson at midnight if that is the only time available. The effect is practical rather than theoretical: a lesson that fits the day is far more likely to be attended. Recorded material adds a second benefit: a learner can replay an unclear explanation until it makes sense, something a classroom lesson, once finished, never permits콜론, 동격, 삽입구를 완전히 통제하여 사용함. Together these features turn language learning from a privilege of those with regular timetables대비를 담은 정확한 명사구 into something most adults can sustain.

The real disadvantage is the scarcity of unplanned speaking. In a classroom, a learner must answer a question immediately, and that mild pressure is what turns knowledge into fluency효과를 정확하게 표현함; a student who only watches lessons may understand the grammar perfectly yet hesitate when addressed by a real person. The concern is therefore legitimate, and it would be wrong to dismiss it. This weakness, however, is neither universal nor permanent이름표 없이 문단을 단점에서 비교로 전환하는 문장. Many courses now include live conversation sessions, and learners can arrange practice with a partner independently.

On balance, the loss of spontaneous practice is real but remediable, whereas rigid timetables simply exclude people결론 문단이 양쪽을 비교하고 결론이 성립하는 이유를 제시함. The advantages therefore carry more weight, because a learner who cannot attend a class cannot practise anything.

점수를 가른 요소

아래의 설명은 이 사이트가 풀이한 공개 채점 기준을 따릅니다. 각 인용은 옆에 이름이 적힌 에세이에서 나옵니다.

Task Response

6점 에세이는 결론을 제시하고 양쪽을 다루지만 단점은 이름만 언급될 뿐입니다. “The students do not get enough chance to speak with other people” 뒤에는 예가 아니라 일반화가 이어지고, 결론 문단의 “To conclude, online lessons are flexible but students speak less, and the advantages are bigger”는 서론을 반복합니다. 7점에서는 단점이 설명된 뒤 결론과 비교됩니다: “However, this problem is not impossible to solve, since many online courses now offer live conversation sessions”. 8점에서는 비교가 결론이 성립하는 이유가 됩니다: “On balance, the loss of spontaneous practice is real but remediable, whereas rigid timetables simply exclude people”. Task Response(과제 응답)의 7점 칸을 참고하세요.

Coherence and Cohesion

6점은 요점이 하나뿐인 문단을 “Firstly”로 시작하므로, 그 이름표는 아무것도 연결하지 않습니다. 7점은 각 문단에 하나의 주제를 주고 곧바로 밝힙니다: “The main advantage is flexibility”. 또한 결론의 근거가 되는 이유로 끝맺습니다: “flexibility decides whether many people can learn at all”. 8점에서는 단점에서 비교로 넘어가는 전환에 연결어가 필요하지 않습니다: “This weakness, however, is neither universal nor permanent”. Coherence and Cohesion(일관성과 응집성)의 6점 칸은 기계적인 패턴을 설명합니다.

Lexical Resource

6점은 이해할 수 있지만 평이하며, “very good”이 정확한 단어의 일을 대신하고, “alone”이 쓰인 자리에 일반적인 단어는 lonely입니다. 7점은 “builds confidence” 같은 자연스러운 짝을 씁니다. 8점은 드문 단어가 아니라 정확한 표현을 고릅니다. “a privilege of those with regular timetables”는 흔한 단어 7개로 대비를 담고, “what turns knowledge into fluency”는 교실의 압박이 주는 효과를 이름 붙입니다. Lexical Resource(어휘력)의 8점 칸을 참고하세요.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy

6점은 단문과 복문을 섞어 쓰고, 오류가 뜻을 가로막지 않습니다: “this make them more confident”와 “advantages is more than”. 7점은 쉼표와 관계절로 더 긴 문장을 다루는데(“a live class does not allow”), “yet hesitate when speak”에는 실수가 남아 있습니다. 8점에서는 한 문장이 콜론, 동격, 삽입구를 무리 없이 담습니다: “a learner can replay an unclear explanation until it makes sense, something a classroom lesson, once finished, never permits”. Grammatical Range and Accuracy(문법의 다양성과 정확성)의 7점 칸이 이 패턴을 더 자세히 설명합니다.

이 유형의 함정

  • 이름만 언급하고 설명하지 않은 단점. 6점 에세이는 학생들이 “do not get enough chance to speak”라고만 하고 넘어가며, 무엇을 잃는지는 말하지 않습니다.

Task Response, Coherence and Cohesion, Lexical Resource, Grammatical Range and Accuracy로 표시하고, 표시가 어디에 들어갈지 적어 보세요.
