The best IELTS Speaking apps for Android in 2026

Quick answer

Ten of the products people recommend for IELTS Speaking had a Google Play listing we could check on 18 September 2026: SpeakPrac, Cathoven, Stimuler, our own app, TalkDrill, FixoLang, TestGlider, italki, Preply and Duolingo. Only the first five plus FixoLang describe IELTS Speaking practice at all, and all of those except FixoLang describe scoring against the four named IELTS criteria. Several tools recommended in "best app" articles — SmallTalk2Me, Speechful, Sprechify, Engnovate — have no Android app at all.

Record a real Part 2 answer on your Android phone and it comes back scored on the four public criteria, with each mistake explained rather than just flagged.

On this page

We make IELTS Mentor AI, one of the apps discussed here. We’ve tried to be fair; check each app’s own Google Play listing before you decide.

Most “best IELTS Speaking app” lists were written without checking which store each product is actually on, which is a problem if you own an Android phone: some of the most-recommended names have no Android app at all, and three of the most IELTS-specific ones are Android-only. This page lists only products with a Google Play listing we could read on 18 September 2026, and says what each listing actually claims.

Key takeaways

  • Ten products here have a Google Play listing; five of the six that describe IELTS Speaking practice also describe scoring against the four named IELTS criteria.
  • SpeakPrac, Cathoven and TalkDrill are Android and web only — there is no iPhone version of any of them.
  • SmallTalk2Me, Speechful, Sprechify, Engnovate and British Council’s IELTS Ready have no Android app; they run in a browser instead.
  • TestGlider’s Play listing describes TOEFL preparation and never mentions IELTS, even though its website has IELTS material.

How we checked

Every fact here comes from the product’s own Google Play listing or its own website, read on 18 September 2026. No review sites, no other roundups, and no hands-on testing — we haven’t run these apps against each other, so nothing below is a quality judgement. The order reflects one thing only: how much of what an IELTS Speaking candidate needs each listing itself claims to do. Where a listing doesn’t say, this page says “not stated” rather than filling the gap. And we make one of them, which is why that disclosure is at the top of the page.

The Android options, ordered by fit

1. SpeakPrac. Android and web only; its own site offers an Android download and no iOS one. Its Play listing describes a “full IELTS speaking mock test app with Parts 1, 2, and 3,” an “estimated band score (5-9) based on official IELTS criteria,” detailed feedback on fluency, pronunciation, grammar and vocabulary, and “Improved Version” rewrites of your own answers. Speaking only — no Writing, Listening or Reading is mentioned.

Suits: an Android or browser user who wants a timed Parts 1-3 Speaking mock, an estimated band and rewrites of their own answers; not an iPhone user, and not anyone who also needs Writing, Listening or Reading.

2. Cathoven IELTS. Also Android and web, with no iPhone app: Cathoven’s own download page lists iOS as “Soon” with no live link. The IELTS app describes instant band scores “with an overall score plus the four official criteria,” Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3 practice with exam-style questions, and a colour-coded transcript you tap for corrections and pronunciation tips. Note that the same developer publishes a second, separate Android app, Cathoven Speaking, which is a general AI speaking tutor and makes no IELTS-rubric claim. Neither Play page displays a star rating, which Play does when a listing has too few ratings.

Suits: an Android or browser user who wants Part 1-3 practice scored on the four official criteria and a tap-to-correct transcript; not an iPhone user, as its download page lists iOS as “Soon”.

3. Stimuler. On Android, iOS and the web. Its Play listing is “Stimuler AI: English Fluency”; its IELTS page names fluency, lexical resource, grammatical range and pronunciation, and its FAQ describes Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3 coverage with AI scoring. The listing also promises tailored tips after each session and “Speech Insights” beyond a raw score. Its site covers Writing and Reading as well as Speaking. One practical note: its real site is stimuler.tech — stimuler.com is a parked domain that goes nowhere useful.

Suits: an Android user who also has, or may later use, an iPhone or a browser, and wants Parts 1-3 Speaking scored on the four criteria, with Writing and Reading on its site.

4. Our app. On Android and iOS. A Speaking answer is scored on all four public criteria and reported as a range from a strict examiner setting to a lenient one, every mistake is explained rather than just marked, recurring mistakes are tracked with their band impact, and a full Parts 1-3 mock runs at exam timing. Writing Task 1 and Task 2 are marked separately, and Reading (Academic) and Listening are auto-marked too, each with a band, a by-passage or by-part breakdown, and a by-question-type breakdown.

Suits: an Android user who wants Speaking marked on the four criteria as a band range, with Writing, Academic Reading and Listening in the same app; not a browser user, and not anyone who wants a human tutor.

5. TalkDrill. Android and web, with no iPhone listing found under any search variant. Its IELTS Speaking page lists fluency and coherence, lexical resource, grammatical range and accuracy, and pronunciation as scored dimensions, with a timed cue card and an estimated band; its homepage shows an AI call correcting a sentence mid-conversation. It also offers bookable sessions with human coaches, and has listening drills but no writing module.

Suits: an Android or browser user who wants the four criteria scored on a timed cue card, with bookable human coaches and listening drills; not an iPhone user, and there is no writing module.

6. FixoLang. On Android, iOS and the web, published on Play under the developer name EngVarta. Its description promises “real-time assessment” of grammar, sentence structure, coherence and IELTS vocabulary usage over a library of speaking topics — not the four official criterion names — plus access to EngVarta’s human mentors for pronunciation and mother-tongue influence. Whether it runs one continuous Part 1-2-3 mock, as opposed to a topic practice library, is not stated. Its Play listing showed a last-updated date of 10 May 2025, well over a year before the other apps here.

Suits: an Android user who wants topic-by-topic assessment with human mentors on hand; unclear from its listing for anyone who needs the four official criteria named or one continuous Part 1-2-3 mock.

7. TestGlider. Read this one carefully. Its Google Play listing (and its App Store listing) describes TOEFL preparation only — mock tests, section practice, AI corrections for Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing — and never mentions IELTS. The IELTS Speaking material, including a Band Overview named after the four official criteria, exists only on testglider.com. Whether the Android app itself contains any IELTS content is not stated anywhere in its own listing.

Suits: unclear from its Play listing, which describes TOEFL only; its IELTS material is on testglider.com, and whether the Android app holds any IELTS content is not stated.

8. italki. A marketplace for booking live lessons with human teachers in 150-plus languages, not an AI scorer. IELTS is not mentioned anywhere in its Play listing, its App Store listing or its app page, so any exam-specific work would depend entirely on the teacher you book.

Suits: an Android user who wants to book live lessons with a human teacher; exam-specific work depends on the teacher booked, as IELTS is not mentioned in its listings.

9. Preply. The same shape: live 1-on-1 lessons with human tutors, with its own site explicitly contrasting itself with gamified apps and AI tutors while also referencing AI practice tools as a supplement. Its listings never mention IELTS or the four criteria either.

Suits: an Android user who wants 1-on-1 lessons with a human tutor; exam-specific work depends on the tutor booked, as its listings never mention IELTS.

10. Duolingo. General language learning across 40-plus languages in short lessons covering speaking, reading, listening and writing, plus Chess, Math and Music courses. IELTS appears nowhere in its Play listing, App Store listing or homepage, and no band score or exam-part structure is described.

Suits: an Android user who wants short general lessons across 40-plus languages; not anyone who needs IELTS content, band scores or exam-part structure.

Which of these fits you

The ten apps above fit different situations, so this table starts from yours instead of from a ranking. Each row names one or two products from this page whose own Google Play listing or website describes what the situation needs; it routes you to a shortlist and does not grade the products against each other.

Your situation Start with Why
Android only, Speaking only, timed Parts 1-3 mock SpeakPrac; Cathoven IELTS Both Play listings describe Part 1-3 mocks scored on IELTS criteria, and neither has an iPhone app
Android, a transcript to tap and correct Cathoven IELTS Its listing describes a colour-coded transcript with corrections and pronunciation tips
Android, a rewrite of your own answer to compare against SpeakPrac Its listing describes “Improved Version” rewrites of your own answers
Android, Speaking and Writing marked in one place Stimuler; our app Stimuler’s site covers Writing and Reading, and our app marks Writing Tasks 1 and 2 on the four Writing criteria
Android, all four papers in one app Our app It marks Speaking and Writing and auto-marks Academic Reading and Listening; it has no web version
The same app on an Android phone and an iPhone Stimuler; our app Both are listed on both stores
A human coach or mentor alongside AI scoring TalkDrill; FixoLang TalkDrill offers bookable coaches and FixoLang offers EngVarta’s mentors, both inside an AI product
A human teacher you book yourself italki; Preply Both are marketplaces for live lessons, and neither mentions IELTS in its listings

Where IELTS Mentor AI fits

We make it. It is a paid iOS and Android app for Academic IELTS practice in all four skills: an AI examiner marks Speaking and Writing on the four official criteria and reports a band range, full Reading and Listening tests are marked the moment you finish, and one Skill Map shows what to fix next. It fits if you have an Android phone and want Speaking marked on the four criteria as a band range, with Writing, Academic Reading and Listening in the same app. It has no web version, so it will not run in a browser, and its interface is in English. It does not replace an examiner, a teacher or an official test. It is a paid app; see what it costs. More on the Speaking product page.

What you can’t get on Android

Five tools that show up constantly in IELTS Speaking recommendations have no Google Play listing at all: SmallTalk2Me, Speechful, Sprechify, Engnovate and British Council’s IELTS Ready platform. None of them is unusable on an Android phone — they all run in a mobile browser — but you won’t find them in the Play Store, and a roundup that tells you to “download” them hasn’t looked.

Separately, a group of well-known apps were checked only on the App Store in this snapshot — IELTSpeaking, IELTS Prep - TalkFace, IELTS by IDP, ELSA Speak, Praktika and Talkpal — so this page makes no claim either way about whether they have an Android version. That is a gap in what we verified, not a statement that they’re missing.

Which one fits your situation

If you want the narrowest possible fit — an IELTS Speaking mock, scored, on an Android phone — SpeakPrac and Cathoven IELTS are the two whose entire stated scope is that, and neither asks you to work around features built for another exam. If you want Speaking scored and Writing marked in the same place, Stimuler and ours both describe that. If you want a person involved rather than only an AI, TalkDrill’s coaches and FixoLang’s mentors are built in, and italki and Preply are the marketplaces for it.

Whatever you install, start by knowing roughly where you stand: a short self-assessment takes a few minutes in your browser, and a full Speaking mock test at exam timing tells you more than another week of unstructured practice.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a good IELTS Speaking app for Android?

There are several with a Google Play listing that describes IELTS Speaking practice — SpeakPrac, Cathoven IELTS, Stimuler, TalkDrill, FixoLang and ours among them. What separates them is whether the listing describes scoring against the four named IELTS criteria and a full Parts 1-3 mock, which is the thing worth checking before you install anything.

Which IELTS Speaking apps are Android-only?

SpeakPrac, Cathoven and TalkDrill are the ones we could confirm as Android plus web with no iPhone app on 18 September 2026. SpeakPrac's own site offers only an Android download, and Cathoven's download page lists iOS as "Soon".

Does SmallTalk2Me have an Android app?

No Google Play listing for it could be found on 18 September 2026, and its own site carries no store badges. The same is true of Speechful, Sprechify, Engnovate and British Council's IELTS Ready platform — all of them run in a browser, which works fine on an Android phone, just not as an installed app.

Do Android IELTS Speaking apps give you a band score?

Several say they do. SpeakPrac's listing describes an estimated band from 5 to 9 based on official IELTS criteria, Cathoven IELTS describes an overall score plus the four official criteria, and Stimuler and TalkDrill both name the four criteria on their own sites. Treat any single number as an estimate — real examiners can differ by half a band on the same answer.

Is Duolingo useful for IELTS Speaking on Android?

Its Google Play listing, its App Store listing and its homepage never mention IELTS. It describes general lessons covering speaking, reading, listening and writing across 40-plus languages, with no band score and no exam-part structure, so it isn't built to tell you where your Speaking sits.
